1700 years have passed since the First Council of Nicaea, a pivotal moment in the history of Christianity. It was the year 325 A.D. when Emperor Constantine decided to convene the bishops from across the Christian world to jointly address a series of fundamental issues facing the young Church. It was a significant confrontation, with the participation of around 300 bishops, and it led to a decisive stance: the Council reaffirmed the inherent nature of the Father and the Son. However, the discussions were not limited to theological matters. Practical norms for ecclesiastical life were also addressed, and a common date for the celebration of Easter was established to strengthen unity in worship. The Vatican's commemorative leaflet marking the anniversary features the vast fresco from the Sistine Hall of the Vatican Apostolic Library, depicting the First Council of Nicaea. At the center of both the scene and the stamp is the Book of the Gospels, around which a gathering of bishops and papal legates—symbolically legitimized by the presence of the Apostle Peter and the Holy Trinity—condemns Arius’s theses in the presence of Emperor Constantine.
