The Philatelic and Numismatic Sales Officet presents the series of stamps issued by the Postal and Philatelic Service, dedicated to the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration – Year V. The United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, represents a global call to protect and restore degraded ecosystems around the world. Year V of the Decade falls in 2026, the year in which the FAO has proclaimed the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, with the aim of raising public awareness of the fundamental role played by rangelands, which cover more than one third of the Earth's land surface, and by pastoralist communities in food security, biodiversity conservation and the fight against climate change. When sustainably managed, rangelands constitute a crucial ecosystem: they store carbon, support biodiversity, provide livelihoods for millions of pastoralists around the world, and contribute to the resilience of rural communities. The International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists aims to promote policies and practices that recognize the role of pastoralists as stewards of the environment and biodiversity. This value reproduces the biblical episode of the encounter between Jacob and Rachel (Raphael's Loggia).
