Witnesses of Hope: Blessed Rosario Livatino - €5.00

In this Jubilee Year, which calls us to be “Pilgrims of Hope,” the Postal and Philatelic Service aims to celebrate, through a series of four stamp issues, individuals who have offered a radiant testimony of hope through their lives and actions. The first of these issues is dedicated to Blessed Rosario Livatino, a magistrate whose commitment to fighting the Mafia and unwavering adherence to Christian values carved a path of justice and courage. Born on October 3, 1952, in Canicattì, Sicily, Rosario Livatino chose a career in the judiciary with the dream of serving justice and the common good. He stood out for his strength of character and determined approach to prosecuting mafia-related crimes. Tragically, his life was cut short on September 21, 1990, when a mafia commando assassinated him. The illustration, depicting Blessed Livatino, is inspired by the official image used during his beatification. The book in his hands bears the motto “SUB TUTELA DEI” (under the protection of God), with which he would seal the pages of his diary. In the background is a stylized rendering of the interior architecture of the Cathedral of Agrigento, where the beatification ceremony took place. On the stamp margin, a representation of Hope,the theme of the Jubilee and the inspiration for this issue, can be seen.
