Euro coin set BU 2026

The new Vatican euro coin set, the first issued during the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, draws direct inspiration from the pope's coat of arms, reproduced on the cover with a chalk-effect finish and embossed on an ivory background. A deep blue highlights the inscriptions and key graphic elements, echoing the colours of the two heraldic fields of the papal shield. This same colour combination will become even more prominent in the new packaging design that will accompany future numismatic issues. This is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a genuine tribute and direct reference to the new pontificate. The coins contained within the set feature an unprecedented alternation between the pope's portrait and the papal coat of arms: the portrait appears on the higher denominations, while the coat of arms is featured on the lower denominations, creating a graphic concept never before seen in the history of Vatican coin sets. The 2-euro coin also incorporates the distinctive elements of Pope Leo XIV's coat of arms: the lily, symbolizing purity and Marian devotion, and the flaming heart pierced by an arrow above an open book, representing Augustinian spirituality and the power of the Word of God to transform the human heart.
