2 Euro BU 2025 550th anniversary birth of Michelangelo

The Vatican City State presents the 2 euro commemorative coin dedicated to the great genius of the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo Buonarroti, on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of his birth. The reverse depicts the Dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, an architectural masterpiece designed by Michelangelo and one of the highest symbols of Christianity. Beneath it appears a reference to the structure of the vault of the Sistine Chapel, which he masterfully frescoed. On the left appears the artist’s autograph signature, “Michelagniolo,” reproduced from original documents. This issue celebrates Michelangelo as an extraordinary sculptor and painter, as well as a profound interpreter of the Christian faith. He was a witness to the beauty that unites art and spirituality at the heart of Christianity.
