200 euro gold coin 2024 proof version Towards the Holy Year 2025
As part of the three-year programme “Towards the Holy Year 2025”, the 200 euro coin is dedicated to the theme of Sharing, a universal and profound concept that inspires dialogue and reflection. Artist Cristina De Giorgi, drawing inspiration from a homily by Pope Francis during the General Audience of 27 March 2019, created a moving image of the sharing of bread for the reverse of the coin, a simple gesture imbued with deep meaning. At the centre, Jesus appears with open arms as he offers two loaves of bread, which are later broken and shared by two disciples. On the lower part of the coin, on either side, appear a cluster of grapes and an ear of wheat, which also feature on the obverse beside the coat of arms of Pope Francis. The grapes represent the blood of Christ, while the wheat is a symbol of rebirth and resurrection.
