25 euro coloured silver coin 2024 150th birth of G. Marconi

We celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Guglielmo Marconi with two coins that aim to capture significant moments in the life of this renowned scientist, an iconic figure in the history of telecommunications and Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1909: the 2-euro bimetallic coin in both brilliant uncirculated and proof version, and the 25-euro colored silver coin in the proof version.The 25 euro coloured silver coin aims to celebrate key moments in the life of the eminent scientist, a pivotal figure in the history of telecommunications and Nobel Prize winner for Physics in 1909. It features symbols of Marconi’s pioneering and innovative work on both sides. On the reverse, artist Daniela Longo shows a close-up of the great inventor’s bust. Next to him, three antennas transmit radio waves across the background. On the obverse, an angel faces the coat of arms of Pope Francis and the ship Elettra. Marconi purchased this ship in 1919 and transformed it into a floating laboratory, a true mobile station enabling him to conduct experiments at sea at any time. These scientific tests required varying distances to assess transmission effectiveness based on the distance between sender and receiver. The Elettra, called “the white ship” by poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, became a symbol of maritime communication and technological advancement.
