(10-09-2020) CARTOLINE 2020 - ENCICLICA LAUDATO SI`
On 24 May 2020 Pope Francis announced a special year of reflection of the encyclical Laudato si ’. The series of postcards issued by Vatican City State intends to celebrate this special year by enhancing some elements of nature found inside St. Peter’s Basilica. The featured mosaics, representing respectively the moon, water, palms and the sun, adorn the internal wall of the dome of the Gregorian Chapel and were made between 1775 and 1779 by the master mosaicists of the Fabbrica di San Pietro based on designs by Salvatore Monosilio. The cover and postage stamp impression feature Our Lady of Perpetual Help, also found in the Gregorian Chapel, the first Marian icon shown for the veneration of the faithful in the new Vatican Basilica, and the first work undergoing restoration in the pontificate of Pope Francis.
