(16-11-2022) 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Belarus
The apostolic nunciature in Belarus was established on 11 November 1992 with Pope John Paul II’s apostolic brief Quantam tandem following the Agreement between the Holy See and the Republic of Belarus concerning diplomatic relations between the two parties, signed on that same date in Minsk in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961. The same agreement also provided for the establishment of the embassy of the Republic of Belarus to the Holy See by the Republic of Belarus itself. The life of the Church in Belarus and the peaceful coexistence between the country’s Catholic and Orthodox communities have always been the focus of talks and diplomatic meetings over these years. In the stamp designed by Marco Ventura, the national coat of arms of Vatican City State and the Republic of Belarus are depicted on a book, symbolizing the ratified agreement.
