(10-11-2022) GOLD COMMEMORATIVE COIN 20 EURO - 2022

The 400th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis de Sales is celebrated by the Vatican Mint with the issue of the 20 euro gold coin. The image of him designed by artist Orietta Rossi reflects his fervent work to spread Catholicism during a time of strong Calvinism. The small sheets seen around Francis are the leaflets and posters he wrote and posted everywhere to spread the Word of God as widely as possible. He was canonised in 1665 by Pope Alexander VII. In recognition for his writings he received the title of Doctor of the Church in 1887 from Pope Leo XIII. In 1923 Pope Pius XI proclaimed him Patron of Journalists. Many congregations have found inspiration through his writings. The most famous is the Salesian Family founded by Saint John Bosco in 1859.
