This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Saints Peter and Paul Association established in 1971 by  St. Paul VI as a way to continue the legacy of ideals of the Palatine Guard. The members are Catholics of Rome who wish to “bear special witness to Christian life, the apostolate and fidelity to the Apostolic See” (as stated in article 1 of the Statutes of New Sodality) through cultural activities, works of Christian charity and the service offered mainly in the Papal Basilica of St. Peter’s in the Vatican. The postage stamp celebrating the anniversary, designed by very young British artist Liam Hipple, shows the area of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican with Bernini’s baldacchino in the foreground and the apsidal wall in the background, where most of the Association’s activities and service take place. The illustration includes the Association’s coat of arms depicting the two Holy Apostles.
